9th Anniversary

Today is the 9th anniversary of Dylan Cover Albums, the oldest part of DylanCover.com. That original part of the website was first available on-line on January 30, 1999.
Thanks to all who have contributed in any form over the years.

As the website enters it's 10th year, I have noted a decrease in both average daily visitors and the already meager earnings generated by my affiliate links. Coupled with the increasing time and costs required to maintain the site, I don't plan any major additions or changes in the near future.

From the DylanCover.com collection:
Jake and The Family Jewels
+ The Quinaimes Band

More early 70s vinyl:
Jake and The Family Jewels was led by New Yorker Alan "Jake" Jacobs.
Nestled between the 2 Jake LPs is The Quinaimes Band, a Martha's Vineyard based band that shared several members with The Family Jewels, including Jake on guitar and future Steely Dan vocalist David Palmer.
If you like harmony bands like Crosby Stills & Nash or Brewer & Shipley, you'll like this trio of rare "jewels." Visions of Johanna is one of my favorite covers. I'm not aware of any CD reissues of these albums. Comments welcome.

Open The Door Homer (2:48)
Jake and The Family Jewels
LP: Polydor 24-4029; 1970 (US)
Also released as a single.

Visions Of Johanna (4:32)
The Quinaimes Band
LP: Elektra EKS-74096; 1971 (US)

Minstrel Boy (3:41)
Jake and The Family Jewels
The Big Moose Calls His Baby Sweet Lorraine

DylanFest! series added to Dylan Cover Albums

Added to the Various Artist pages of Dylan Cover Albums are 3 CD/CDRs from the DylanFest! series, released as limited editions by Embassy Hotel Records. The series documents annual concerts in Ann Arbor, Michigan, held to benefit local charities. Recordings of the 2002, 2003 and 2004 shows were released.
I am assuming these CDs are no longer available from Embassy Hotel. I have been unable to contact the label, their e-mail box is perpetually full and rejecting e-mails, and their website appears to be dormant (the 2004 tracklist has never been added.)
I'm told “The sound quality is not superb, but reasonable.”

The tracklist:
Blowin In The Wind / Stuck Inside of Mobile with Memphis Blues Again / The Man In Me / Hurricane / Jokerman / Lay Lady Lay / Mr. Tambourine Man / Cold Irons Bound / When the Deal Goes Down / Blind Willie McTell / Under the Red Sky / Simple Twist of Fate

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
Slizzy Bob

It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (3:23)
Slizzy Bob
The Early Tapes
CD: G.I.B. 383 0026 2; 1996 (Germany)

Slizzy Bob is a Hamburg based singer, songwriter & producer. His version of Baby Blue is in the Euro dance/techno style, but with a lighter touch than most others in the genre. The track is gimmicky, with vocal and sound effects, including an explosion in the middle!
The coverart reads "Including the Top-Hit: It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." Anyone remember this as a "hit"?
There is no recording info on the ©1996 CD, so I don't know the origins of these recordings, he has been active since the mid-'80s.
Most of the album's songs are originals, all performed in English, some in the same vein and others in a more pop style. Another notable cover is Stevie Nicks' Dreams.
More recently Slizzy Bob covered To Make You Feel My Love on his 2006 album "Subtle Flavour."
