New in the DylanCover.com collection: Tony Mottola

Lay Lady Lay (instrumental)
Tony Mottola
Tony Mottola's Guitar Factory
LP: Project 3 PR 5044 SD; 1970 (US)

Nice cover.
The guitar instro of Lay Lady Lay isn't bad either. :)
Another of the "Enoch Light Presents" albums from Project 3. A mix of instrumental versions of the hits of the day plus a few originals. The album notes describe Mottola as "America's greatest popular guitarist." Tony was Perry Como's arranger in the '50s, recorded many albums for Command and Project 3 during the '60s & '70s, and was Frank Sinatra's guitarist for most of the 1980s. Lay Lady Lay also features guitarists Vinnie Bell and Jay Berliner.

New "oldie" cover: Mike Berry & The Crickets

Take a British oldies singer, whose first recording success was in 1961 with the UK #24 single "Tribute to Buddy Holly," pair him with Holly's '50s band The Crickets to record an album of their favorites, and you get yet another version of the oft-covered Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. Mike Berry (not to be confused with UK '60s singer Dave Berry) also had several hits in the 1980s. Fans of the British BBC sitcom Are you Being Served? (seen on PBS in the US) will recognize Berry as Mr. Spooner, from the final years of the program. Berry & The Crickets have long planned to record together, and finally About Time Too! was recorded in Tennessee during November 2004, released in the UK in 2005 and now available in the US.

Like A Rolling Stone
Vince Buffa
Rosa
CD: P.Showletto Entertainment VB5105; 2001 (US)

Although several tracks here are about Los Angeles, Vince Buffa is from Georgia (I think) and that is all I know about him. Rosa is a mix of original songs, spoken monologues (some earning an "explicit" warning), and 2 covers: Everybody's Talkin' and Like A Rolling Stone in a 7-minute, slow paced acoustic arrangement. Available for less than $1 from Amazon Marketplace.

New in the DylanCover.com collection: The Revelers

Blowin' In The Wind
The Revelers
The Revelers Sing
LP: Revelers Records AU-4668; 196? (US)

Not to be confused with The Revellers with 2-Ls from Ireland, who also covered Blowin' In The Wind, these 1-L Revelers were from New York. The four-man vocal group released this undated LP at the dawn of folk-rock as described on the sleeve:
“Sometimes referred to as the Civil Rights Movement's greatest Northern freedom song, Blowin' In The Wind is written in the new idiom called folk-rock, differentiated from the traditional folk song in that it is conciously composed rather than handed down over the years by word of mouth.”
I don't think that is an entirely accurate definition, but one look at these guys and you know there isnt much "rock" in their rendition!
The Revelers were Tom Edwards, Doc Savage, Ray Murcell, and Carl Olsen. Producer & music director was Milt Okun, who recorded several albums of his own and arranged for Harry Belafonte, the Chad Mitchell Trio, The Brothers Four, John Denver and others. The LP was available from their own label for only $5.25, postage and tax included.

New in the DylanCover.com collection: Push

Jokerman
Push
On The Run
CD: Z Records ZR1997025; 2000 (Denmark)

The Danish hard-rock band Push released four albums between 1996-2002. On The Run, their third, with their cover of Jokerman once again proves how Bob's songs can adapt to any style. More info about the band HERE.

A Whisper In The Noise
As The Bluebird Sings
CD: Transdreamer 2074; 2006 (US)

A Whisper In The Noise is a Minnesota-based band led by West Thordson. Terms they use to describe their music are: “dark and dynamic piano and strings-based project” and “bastardized orchestral garage rock.” Times is the closing song on this, their 2nd album. Added to Translations: Gian Pieretti

Caro Bob Dylan, an Italian CD by Gian Pieretti has been circulating sine 1997, but I have previously resisted adding it to Dylan Cover Albums since the concensus was that it was a bootleg. The original CD was on the Pull label, and Italian collectors I had asked were of the opinion that it was not an official release. Recently it has reappeared, now on the Fuego label. This new incarnation appears to be more legit, as it includes mail & telephone info for Fuego (but still the same awful artwork!)
With Dylan in the title and 5 Dylan covers in Italian it qualifies for inclusion. The title-track is an original song by Pieretti. I have no links for the label or retailers, but the CD has been offered on Italian eBay.

The Dylan covers:
La Risposta (Blowin' In The Wind)
Mr. Tambourine Man
I Tempi Son Cambiati (The Times They Are A-Changing)
C'e' Una Pioggia (Rainy Day Women #12 & 35)
Bambina (It Ain't Me Babe)

Thanks to Lars M. Banke and Arie de Reus for info about this CD.
